This is a 46-kilometre long joyous ride that passes through numerous tunnels, curves, bridges and beautiful scenery before finally reaching its destination, Ooty. The train takes you to an unimaginable height of 300 feet to 7200 feet and remains a remarkable retreat for whole family fun.
Ooty Lake
Spend some moments of peace at the Ooty Lake where one can indulge in picnicking, paddle boating and nature walks. This 2.5-kilometre long lake is nestling with scenic charms of the Nilgiris.
Ooty Botanical Garden
Those having a fascination for fauna must plan a visit to the Ooty Botanical Garden. This 22 hectares garden is home to over 650 species of flowers and trees. The main attraction of the garden is a20 million years old fossil tree.
Rose Garden
Visit the Rose Garden in Ooty displaying over 3600 varieties of rose. It is one of the largest rose gardens in the country. You can enjoy leisurely walks here apart from buying some plants and saplings to take back home.
St Stephen’s Church
Ooty also has an ancient church named St Stephen’s Church. The church was built in 1829 and looks beautiful with stained glass windows. Another historic wonder of the hill station is the Government Museum on the Mysore Road where you can explore relics of tribal art and culture.
Viewpoints
For a bird’s eye view, the Doddabetta Peak is the best location. This is the highest peak of Nilgiri where air is refreshing and nature is jaw dropping. Dolphin’s Nose is another high point from where you can catch spectacular views of tea plantations.
